The technique I used for the illustrations that are part of the Uninvited project was to combine physically made inky marks on paper with digital illustration. This is an attempt to echo in my visual voice the hybrid form of the text as a mix between poetry and fiction and a dialogue between Plato’s Symposium and Carrie and Carla’s own unique voices, all of them being in harmony at the same time. Because the text of Uninvited is to my mind very poetically expressive and poignant, and because of the connection with an already existing work of literature, I included a lot of typography in the illustrations themselves, making them more in tune with the themes that go through the book. It was a great pleasure and an also an artistic challenge to work on these illustrations and to be able to contribute to the project!
